A workplace inclusion, engagement, and cultural competence expert — diversity and inclusion consultant, accomplished trainer, award-winning teacher, and writer who pioneered diversity certification credentialing in 1998.
Billy E. Vaughn, Ph.D., is a cognitive cultural psychologist who has dedicated his career to cultural diversity leadership training, research, and publications. He serves as Senior Managing Partner of DTUI.com LLC and Director of the Diversity Executive Leadership Academy, where he is an expert in workplace inclusion, engagement, and cultural competence.
Billy’s career began as a core faculty member at the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) in San Diego. His interest in applying his expertise in non-academic settings led to the development of Diversity Training University International (DTUI.com) in 1998 — a free-standing corporate university that furthers his goals of training cultural competence among those in the community and workplace. The Diversity Executive Leadership Academy, an executive-level diversity leadership certification institute, is a DTUI.com subdivision.
He has served as a consultant and trainer for city administrations, universities, community organizations, and Fortune 1000 companies. He is frequently invited to serve as a keynote speaker by a range of organizations and businesses, such as the Multicultural Advocates for Cultural Competence organization, and has been invited to offer workshops at the National Conference on Race & Ethnicity in Higher Education for nine years in a row due to his outstanding performance evaluations.
Internationally recognized as a scholar for his research and writing in diversity and inclusion, Billy is a contributor and editor for Diversity Officer Magazine. He has published several books on managing diversity and diversity training, along with professional papers on multiculturalism in organizations, the role of emotion in intercultural conflict, and intercultural communication in organizations.
Billy is also civic-minded, having served as a board member of the San Francisco Asian Americans in Public Affairs chapter. Away from his work, he enjoys fly fishing, kayaking, boating, and traveling.
